The Arrow Maker

The Arrow Maker
Mary Austin's folk drama with feminist undertones opened 27 February 1911 and had an eight-performance run at the New Theatre in New York. The title character is Simwa, who becomes chief of a Paiute tribe with the help of the Chisera, a medicine woman who loves him and whom he betrays. The white actors were coached to learn Native American chants and dances, while costumes and objects from the Museum of Natural History were copied in the scene design elements.
